The Bangladesh Open University (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ উন্মুক্ত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or BOU is a public university with its main campus in Board Bazar, Gazipur District, Dhaka Division. It is the 7th largest university in the world according to enrolment. The university was established on 21 October 1992. As the only public university in Bangladesh to use distance education as a method of delivery, BOU is mandated to "promote through multimedia; instruction of every standard and knowledge – both general and scientific – by means of any form of communications technology, to raise the standard of education and to give the people educational opportunities by democratizing education and creating a class of competent people by raising the standard of education of the people generally."

Islamic Arabic University is a university in Mohammadpur Thana of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Islamic Arabic University was authorized by the passage in Parliament on 18 September 2013 of the Islamic Arabic University Bill. It will supervise all 1,500 Fazil (bachelor) and Kamil (master) level madrasas in Bangladesh. Initially, it will be located at the Bangladesh Madrasa Teachers' Training Institute in Gazipur.

Eastern University (Bengali: ইস্টার্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or EU is a private university located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Eastern University was established in 2003 under the Private University Act 1992, and later on approved under Private University Act of 2010. The university was set up by Eastern University Foundation - a non-profit, non-political and philanthropic organization. Its founders include academics, chartered accountants, engineers, industrialists and retired civil servants. The Foundation has 30 members. The governance of Eastern University is carried out as per the Private Universities Act of 2010 by several bodies: Board of Trustees, Syndicate, Academic Council, Curriculum Committee, Finance Committee, Teacher Selection Committee and Disciplinary Committee.

East Delta University (Bengali: ইস্ট ডেল্টা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় or EDU) is a private university in Chittagong, Bangladesh.[2] It received the government's license in 2006 and started its academic operation in February 2008.[3] East Delta University offers 6 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate programs. The University is approved by the Government of Bangladesh as well the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) under the nation's private university rules. It is governed by the East Delta University Trust, a subsidiary of Chittagong Foundation, an independent and non-partisan social welfare organization.

Primeasia University received Government permission in August 2003. Subsequently, Primeasia University started its journey with only 35 students in the fall semester of 2003. Within a short period of time Primeasia University grew up to a significantly large university. At present, the University has Textile Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Architecture departments under the School of Engineering; Microbiology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Public Health and Nutrition departments under the School of Biological Science; BBA, MBA, International Tourism and Hospitality Management departments under the School of Business Administration and Law department under the School of Law. Today, the total number of students of this university is around 4000. All the departments are well equipped with necessary laboratories, libraries and other facilities.

North South University (Bengali: নর্থ সাউথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় [nortʰ sautʰ biʃʃobiddalɔe̯], also known as NSU) is the first official non-government university in Bangladesh. Its business school is also the first in Bangladesh to receive American accreditation from the ACBSP in 2015.[3] The government of Bangladesh approved the establishment of North South University in 1992 under the Private University Act (PUA) 1992 (now replaced by PUA 2010). The university was formally inaugurated on 10 February 1993, by Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. The university ranked 1st[4] among the private universities and 3rd among all the universities in research output on the Bangladesh University Ranking 2019

There is an auditorium with 700 seats, a multipurpose hall with 1850 seats, classrooms, labs, design studios, lecture theatres, 475 car parking places, rooftop playground, park, vertical transportation, substations, data centre for IT related use, UPS, CCTVs, solar panels, lifts, escalators, stairs, fire escapes, faculty and administrative offices, teacher’s lounges, a cafeteria, an e-library, recreation facilities and a lake.

Chittagong Independent University (CIU) started its journey in Chittagong in 1999 as an additional campus of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB). IUB and the founding trust pioneered the establishment of private universities in Bangladesh. CIU was formed by the same trust ESTCDT after the amendment by the private university Act. which required that the Chittagong Campus be registered as a separate university. Accordingly, CIU was founded on 6 February 2013 in succession.
