Varendra University (VU) is a coeducational private university in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. It obtained approval from the Ministry of Education on March 14, 2012 and from the University Grants Commission (UGC) on March 20, 2012, under the Private University Act of 1992 and was the first UGC approved private university in Rajshahi.[2] One of its founders is Liakat Sikdar, former President of Bangladesh Chhatra League
The first convocation of Uttara University was held on 16 June 2009. The chancellor of Uttara University and the president of Bangladesh Md. Zillur Rahman presided over the convocation program, when 1088 graduate and undergraduate students received their certificates. Professor A. A. M. S. Arefin Siddique, vice chancellor of Dhaka University was scheduled as the convocation speaker.
University of Science & Technology Chittagong (USTC) (Bengali: বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, চট্টগ্রাম) is a first private university in Bangladesh.[2] The university was established with the sponsorship of a private charity on May 13, 1989.[3] Previously it was started as Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS), later it was upgraded to USTC as a full phased university after the promulgation of the Private University Act, 1992. In January 2018 IAHS was renamed as Dr Nurul Islam Memorial Institute of Applied Health Science (DNIMIAHS) and its affiliation was challenged from USTC to Chittagong Medical University
This idea was founded and initiated by the president of UODA, Professor Mujib Khan. In 2002 the Government of Bangladesh approved the University of Development Alternative (UODA), and now under 6 faculties, UODA offers undergraduate courses in over 14 subjects. The students can also achieve their master's degree in their respective subjects after their respective 4 years undergraduate programmes. Its temporary campuses are in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh.[1]
University of Asia Pacific (UAP) was established in 1996 as a private university under the Private University Act 1992. Its curriculum has been approved by The University Grants Commission of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The university started its operation in the first semester of classes in 1996, and offered four-year bachelor's degree programs in Computer Science and Technology and Business Administration only. Now UAP offers undergraduate programs in English, Law, Architecture, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Pharmacy.
University of Information Technology and Sciences, the first IT-based private university in Bangladesh,[2] was founded on 7 August 2003 as a non-profit organization. Information Science and Technology Solution Ltd (ISTS), a concern of PHP Family headed by Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman Chowdury, is the sponsor of UITS.
The People's University of Bangladesh or PUB is a non-profit educational institution located at Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established on 14 May 1996 as a private university under the Private University Act 1992[1] with a view to expanding the scope of higher education in Bangladesh. The university has two own campuses, one at Mohammadpur and the other one located at Sristighar, Shibpur, Narsingdi. Mr.Shirazul Islam Mollah is the chairman of PUB. The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has approved its syllabi and curricula. The first convocation was held on 29 October 2007 at Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre;[2] the second convocation was held on 9 February 2010 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Sylhet International University (SIU) is a private university located at Shamimabad, Bagbari, Sylhet, Bangladesh. It was established under The Private University Act of 1992.[1] SIU is affiliated with University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. The first vice-chancellor was Sadruddin Ahmed Chowdhury. The current vice-chancellor is Md. Shahid Ullah Talukder

It was established in 2002 under the Private University Act.[3] Before starting as a university, its predecessor institution was known as a Stamford College Group established in 1994,[4] later it was upgraded as private university of Bangladesh in 2002 and appeared as Stamford University Bangladesh. Stamford University is the first ISO certified university in Bangladesh
